Crispy Fried Shrimp Recipe 🍤✨
Golden, crispy, and packed with flavor, these fried shrimp are perfect as an appetizer, snack, or main dish. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy restaurant-quality shrimp at home!
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Optional Dipping Sauce
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to help the coating stick better.
- In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until smooth.
- Dip each shrimp into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture. For extra crunch, dip the shrimp back into the egg mixture and coat again with the flour mixture.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the shrimp in small batches for 2–3 minutes, turning once, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the shrimp with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Mix all the dipping sauce ingredients in a small bowl until smooth.
- Serve the crispy fried shrimp immediately with the dipping sauce, lemon wedges, fries, or coleslaw.
Tips
- Do not overcrowd the pan, as it will lower the oil temperature.
- Fresh shrimp provide the best flavor, but thawed frozen shrimp work well too.
- Add a pinch of Old Bay seasoning or Cajun seasoning for an extra kick.
- These shrimp are best enjoyed hot and crispy right after frying.
