Rustic Beef & Potato Casserole

  1. 4 large potatoes (boiled and mashed)
  2. 1 egg
  3. 2 tbsp butter
  4. 2 tbsp chopped dill or parsley
  5. Salt and black pepper to taste
  6. 400 g minced beef (or beef + pork mix)
  7. 1 small onion, finely chopped
  8. 1 garlic clove, minced
  9. Salt and black pepper to taste
  10. ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  11. ½ cup shredded mozzarella or cheese mix
  12. A little sour cream or mayonnaise (optional, for extra creaminess)
  13. Prepare the mashed potato base:
    • In a bowl, mix the mashed potatoes with butter, egg, dill, salt, and pepper.
    • Form round flat disks (like shown in the picture) and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  14. Make the meatballs:
    • Combine minced meat, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.
    • Shape into medium-sized balls and place one on top of each potato disk.
  15. Top and bake:
    • Add a spoon of sour cream or mayonnaise over each one (optional).
    • Sprinkle cheese on top.
    • Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for about 30–35 minutes, until golden and cooked through.
  16. Serve:
    • Let cool slightly, then serve warm with a fresh salad or vegetables.
