SAVORY STUFFING BALLS RECIPE

Ingredients:

1 loaf of day-old bread (preferably French or Italian), cut into small cubes
1/4 cup butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 stalks celery, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup chicken broth (or vegetable broth for a vegetarian version)
1 large egg
1 tsp dried sage
1 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, but highly recommended for an extra flavor boost)
Olive oil spray (for crisping)

Instructions:

Preheat Oven & Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.
Prepare the Bread: If your bread isn’t already stale, you can dry it out by cutting it into cubes and placing it in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast it in the oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until slightly crispy. Remove from the oven and let it cool.
Cook Vegetables: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and celery, cooking until they become soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds, until fragrant. Remove from heat.
Mix Stuffing: In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread, cooked onion, celery, and garlic mixture. Add the sage, thyme, salt, pepper, parsley, and Parmesan (if using). Pour the chicken broth over the mixture and stir until the bread absorbs the liquid and everything is well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.
Form Stuffing Balls: Beat the egg in a small bowl and add it to the stuffing mixture. Stir until evenly mixed. Using your hands or a spoon, form the mixture into small balls, about 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake: Lightly spray the top of each stuffing ball with olive oil spray. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the stuffing balls are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
Serve & Enjoy: Let the stuffing balls cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm, alongside your favorite holiday meal or as a tasty snack!
These savory stuffing balls offer a fun twist on traditional stuffing and can be made ahead of time, making them a great addition to any festive table.
