We are kicking off a major summer cookout debate right now. Is pouring a heavy ladle of sweet, smoky baked beans directly over your grilled hot dog a genius move, or does it completely ruin the bun? Either way, this combination is undeniably rich, flavorful, and incredibly delicious!
Ultimate Baked Bean Loaded Hot Dogs
Prep Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 20 mins Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 4 all-beef hot dogs
- 4 top-split hot dog buns, lightly toasted
- 1 can (28 oz) classic baked beans (or homemade)
- 4 slices thick-cut bacon, diced
- 1/2 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- Chopped green onions or jalapeños for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Bean Topping: Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the diced bacon until crispy. Remove bacon, leaving about 1 tablespoon of drippings in the pan.
- Sauté Onions: Add diced onions to the skillet and sauté until soft and translucent (3–4 minutes).
- Simmer Beans: Reduce heat to low. Stir in the baked beans, yellow mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 8–10 minutes until thick and glossy.
- Grill Hot Dogs: While the beans simmer, grill the hot dogs over medium-high heat until charred to your liking (5–7 minutes).
- Toast Buns: Butter the inside of the buns and lightly toast them on the grill.
- Assemble: Place a grilled hot dog in each bun, spoon a generous ladle of warm baked beans over the top, and finish with crispy bacon bits, shredded cheddar, and sliced green onions.
